  • Will not prime

I have a 1998 Yamaha 40 hp. When I squeeze the primer blub it will not get hard. I replaced it with a whole new hose and bulb and after running once problem returned. I have the tank vent open.
I think the problem might be caused by me disconnecting the line from the tank and letting the engine run the fuel out.

Most of the time that's the sign of a failed fuel pump on the bigger motors. A hole in the fuel pump diaphram will prevent the primer bulb from getting firm. The fuel isn't bubbling out of the carb bowls when you're priming it is it?

I fixed the problem. There was an air lock in the
hose. I disconnected the hose from the engine and
put it in the tank and depressed the check ball
in the fitting with a coat hanger. I squeezed the bulb till all the air was out and it starts and
      runs fine now.
