  • resizing rods polishing crank

Im undertaking the rebuild of a 6G8 powerhead as a spare for my aux. sail engine. There is one rod journal that is scratched and will not plastiguage to specs. Is there any reason I cant take the crank and rods to a machine shop and have the crank ground/polished and the rods reconditioned to obtain the correct oil clearance? The service manual simply says replace crank and/or rod. I might mention at the cost of around $350. The machine shop typically charges $15 to recondition a rod and about $10 per journal for grind/polish
