  • 2004 s-stroke 115hp to 130hp upgrade

    Hi There,

I am about to buy a new yammy 115 or 130hp 2 stroke from the current range.

my only issue is, do I pay the extra $1,000 (AU) for the 130 when it is exactly the same engine OR can I just remove the restrictor ring on the intake like I have done in the past with smaller 25-35 tohatsu/nissans.

The dealer of course tells me its a $4,000 upgrade to do but I have my doubts...

Please let me know if it is possible to simply upgrade the 115!

    Cheers,
    Marcus

I believe the difference between the 2 engines is the bore size of the carburettors. The 130 has larger carbs, allowing the engine to rev faster to get the extra power, hence the high cost of converting (the entire carb assy has to be replaced).
My 130 is 11 years old, very reliable, power heads are bullet proof. The only problem I have had is the gearbox casing cracked by the locking ring. If you buy either engine, make sure the g/box locking ring is removed and cleaned at least once a year. Its a 5 minuite job with the right tool but saves the cost of a new casing.
