  • Will not turn over

    I have a 2004 200hp VMax Was running along about 45 began to lose speed motor shut off. Tried restarting starter will engage but motor will not turn over ???
    Where should I start??

    pull the spark plugs, see if the motor can be rotated by the flywheel manually.
    if not pull the gear case and try the flywheel again.

        Safe this way, but initially carefully just try turning flywheel to test if engine seized (ignition off!). To test if lower unit has seized turn prop in neutral.

          Prop turns in neutral free,will have to wait until the weekend in to go any deeper

            Not an accurate test,
            pinion bearing can seize and prop can still be turned fine.

            Like Rod said, try turning the fly wheel by hand after removing the plugs, if you cannot them remove the lower unit and try again.
