  • Warning Buzzer

I have an 1997 C80TLRV 80 horsepower Yamaha outboard. The motor has been running great and I recently, 2 months ago, replaced the water pump as routine maintenance. I have taken the boat out a couple dozen times since I changed the water pump with no issues. I generally only run the motor about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, however, today I ran full throttle. After about 3 or 4 minutes at full throttle, the warning buzzer sounded. I pulled back to neutral and the buzzer stopped after about 30 or 45 seconds. There was a very strong stream of water coming from the engine. I pulled the engine cover and the engine was cool.

Any ideas as to why the buzzer sounded?

only thing on that motor to set the alarm and RPM reduction should be the over temp. harder you run a motor the more heat it creates. need to find and disconnect the over temp switch while it is happening to see if that makes it go away to prove it
