  • VF250 vs. F250 – Opinions Welcomed

My buddy is eyeballing a boat to buy that has a 2017 VF250. The boat is a 2017 Key West 239FS. I pulled up the spec comparisons of the VF250 and F250 on the yamaha website, https://yamahaoutboards.com/en-us/ut...ine-comparison. The specs of these 2 engines are practically identical.

Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between these two engines and how their difference would relate to performance when paired with a Key West hull.

the F was a bass boat motor and originally only offered in 20". the F has a painted block.
the ECU's are supposedly mapped slightly different based on heavy vs light hull hole shots.

You mean the "VF" was a bass boat motor, (VF250 – VMAX SHO 250), right?

Because this ^^^ I've read, that the VF is engineered for lighter hulls that can accommodate large engines. I was looking to learn what performance features they possess that are different from the F250 4.6L.

the VF does in fact use weaker brackets.
it was designed for the bass boat idiots.
              almost like blow boaters.

              speed cost money.
how fast ya wanna go ???
