    Because of space constraints.

    There is little volume under the hood of the motor to install a big honking oil tank. So a small one that fits is used. But the amount of oil in the main engine mounted tank is not enough to keep the motor supplied with oil for hours on end. So a big oil tank is added to the boat. A boat generally having lots of room for oil tanks, batteries, bilge pumps and such. The big remote oil tank automatically keeps the engine tank filled.

    It is also easier to refill an oil tank in the boat as opposed to having to lift a heavy cowling, particularly if out in a ruff ocean, to add more oil if needed.

      Thanks for the quick reply. So after the initial fill you dont have to worry about the one on the engine?

        The one on the motor, if empty, will be automatically filled when the key is turned on. Then, once the motor is running, the system is all automatic. Add oil only to the remote tank. The system will automatically transfer oil if and as needed from the remote tank to the main tank.

        Best not to be removing the sensor assembly from the main tank to manually add oil to it. Let the system do its job.

              It is always good to post a complete model # when starting a thread.
              which of these is on your model #

              X = OX66 Advanced
              Fuel Injection

              Z = High Pressure
              Direct Injection

                eggzacary.
                however the VX and the VZ oiling system, as far as transfer goes, is the same.
