  • Yamaha 25 hp lower carb leaks from top

    I have used 25 hp 2 cycle. Very clean with low hours.

    Circa 2003-2008?

    I haven't used it for a year.

    The lower carburetor leaks gas from flat top plate when presurrized by hand bulb.

    Is this maybe a stuck float needle?
    Does the top plate have a breather hole in the gasket?

    Bad gas destroyed gasket?
    My first post.
    I keep getting blank search returns.

    Thanks Tim

      The float needle should regulate the fuel level in the float chamber, just like in the back of a toilet/water closet....so the float could have a hole/crack in it or the needle seat is leaking....can you remove the top of carb for inspection?...

        It still shouldn't be leaking once the bulb is hard... Sounds like the gasket under the plate has failed..

        A stuck open float needle would have fuel running out the carb throat. You pressurizing it (with the bulb), is pushing fuel out of the bowl and up past that gasket..

        On this engine, under that plate is at least one jet(that would get fuel, IE fuel should be under there but NOT leaking/bleeding out);

        The 2005 25 HP engine I looked at on line here had one carb, yours has two?

          I've experienced the same with my 25hp. Definitely the gasket by what you're describing, combined with the motor not being used for a year. Invest in a new kit and clean job on both carbs.
