  • F250 water pump question

so I'm watching a youtube video of a guy changing an F250 impeller

    and I say - wait a minute - he's missing some parts

where's the $20 worth of washers and collars ? (that I have on my F225)

then I look on boats.net and I see that "shaft collar" etc thing is used on

what seems about every motor >115 hp from 1990 on

EXCEPT that the F250 has a nice simple water pump - just like my F90

what's the story with that? what am I missing?

Not missing anything, they simply quit using them, I believe it is with the advent of the SDS , the collar is no longer needed.

Yep, my 1999 C90 Yamaha doesn't have a driveshaft collar....I believe it's something to do with the lower unit/gears design, but not exactly sure?...

        both right and wrong.
yep the F250 does not use the collar.
it went back to the early style with a spring and thrust bearing assy below the driveshaft thrust bearing.
its actually pretty simple if you give up the dream that all yamahas are identical.
