  • 70 HP 1988 Trim leaking and need motor

I have a few questions as I had my trim motor die.

    1. I see that I have a 3 wire motor, is there a way to buy a 2 wire and convert it?

    2. I need to replace the orings on this trim unit but the Yami dealer does not sell a kit as its an older motor. Any tips? I looked at the diagram online but I think I am blind or something cause I cant find the orings.

    3. If I found a deal on a used trim assembly, can I mount a different one on there?

One of the issues I see is my trim piston(the main one) is not attached to the motor bracket by design(must be an old style). Most units that I see are attached to the motor bracket.
    I have a 70etlg motor 1988 70 HP.

Yamaha does not offer seal "kits".
    solved that issue.

no good way to convert it to two wire, simply order the correct motor.
if the unit your looking at is the same prefix part number ie 6H1, it should work.

be aware that most of the 3 cyl motor trim units back in the 80's had springs under the trim pistons.
if yours does and you simply unscrew the cap it makes a mess.

Looking at the parts list, yes it does have a spring. Any suggestions or precautions?

the last two turns of the trim cap, push down on the piston.
        or step aside quickly.
