  • f90 outboard cuts out at high rpm

My outboard has 800 hours. It starts fine and take out at 3 to 4k rpms, its starts cutting out and eventually dies. When on the trailer I hook a hose and able to replicate this by just ramping the rpms up with no load. I have replaced the onboard fuel filter, also replaced all the fuel hose from tank to filter and in line filter assembly. In this video you can see it dies, the onboard filter when unscrewed is full of fuel.

I have not rulled out bad gas yet, but hoping some one else might chime in.

Try pumping the primer ball when the issue occurs. Obviously you will need a second person to drive the boat. Don’t rev the motor in neutral out of water. It’s obnoxious and not good for it. Don’t do it in the water either.

Could be a low pressure pump issue and above is a good diagnostic method.

When was the last time you changed your spark plugs?

        Your video has been removed...

As your engine is fuel injected: https://www.boats.net/catalog/yamaha...r/2005/f90tlrd
have you tried draining the VST and checking water in the fuel (coming out of the VST)?

When's the last time the fuel system was serviced?
