  • 93 sterndrive shifting issue

1993 Yamaha 4.3 sterndrive, I know this is an outboard forum I do not see any forums for this setup or any info on the motor online other then it does exist...I'm having a shifting issue hopefully someone here can help me out!
my issue is when the motor is off, I can put the boat in gear and the prop locks as it should when in forward, reverse, or spins freely in neutral, with the motor running the prop does not engage when put into gear...like it's in neutral all the time, removed the lower unit, changed the lower remote cable, everything works as it should, goes into gear no grinds or slipping, put her all back together, turn the key, put her in gear and the prop does not spin when running, turned her off disconnected the upper cable to the controls to rule out that side, when I push her in gear from the motor manually while off she locks into gear just as shes supposed to and thr prop locks as it should, turn her back on and same issue, prop no longer locks into any gear while running...really hope someone can help me put and point me in the right direction!

Well, here's the closest I could find to your stern drive: https://www.boats.net/catalog/yamaha.../v6-dr-dl-1990

    It's not a 1993, no 1993's are listed.

You may want to look thru the various part sections to see if that'll help...

    Especially under "controls": https://www.boats.net/catalog/yamaha...l-1990/control

        +100 ^^^,

I thought about that this am, (forgot to post), but your very likely right, makes sense...

The coupler is toast, or another part between the engine and drive unit.

A mercruiser coupler will be the same.
