    my yamaha starts fine,,,going down the river the alarm sounds and motor sounds like i have a heating problem,,looking back and water is pissing strong,,i change my water pump two years ago i took my thermostat out and put it in hot water,,,working fine,,,could it be the thermo switch assy?,,,when this happen i back off let it idle until the alarm stops then took off again,went about a mile and started doing it again,,,need help on this one

    Do you have gauges that tell you it is overheat? Could be low oil warning also.
    need to determine which issue first

      My guess is the motor has some restricted cooling passages.
      my brothers C60 was doing that same thing,we dropped the lower unit, pulled the stat, hooked up a water hose to the tube to the power head, turned on water full blast and injected compressed air into the water from ime to time to help flush out the system.

      There is also a product called Rydlyme( marine descaler) that some have said worked well on outboards.
