  • Bubbles in exhaust

2004 9.9.4 stroke long shaft outboard has bubbles coming from exhaust . When bubbles break some show a small oil content.Replaced impeller last year and did not notice any problem until I removed engine from boat and took it home. AT home I found a small amount of oil on the floor under the lower case while engine was laying on the floor. I think I laid it down properly but not sure. changed oil and put motor back on boat and when started had a lot of oil coming from exhaust, The more I run the engine the less oil comes out and the fewer bubbles are now in the exhaust. At idle there are no bubbles now. the engine starts and runs fine. Could I have gotten oil into the exhaust system when the engine was laid down Thanks for any help.

The engine has to be on its back [prop to floor] or on the side opisite side of carb, means port side or you will get oil in cyldrs.
