excess fuel, no start.

my 1986 yamaha 9.9 2 stroke had been sitting for a couple of years. the other day, i went to try it out but no luck starting it. removing the cover, i quickly notice fuel coming out of the carb like there was no tomorrow. what could cause this scenerio?

Assuming that the motor turns over when you turn the key and i f you haven't started it in a couple of years, depending on how well it was winterized for long storage the carburator jet is probably gummed up with residue from the fuel line. You could try spraying starter fluid in the carburator while choke statrting it. If this doesn't work, I would pull the carburator and clean it with gumout or another anticorrosive cleaning fluid and then put it back on (with a new gasket) and try it with/without starter fluid again.
