  • Yamaha 150 Fuel Gauge Problems

I have a 2000 Yamaha 150HP Saltwater Series & the fuel gauge is erratic (it's the standard multifunction speedometer, fuel gauge, clock, & battery set-up). I ran the boat 3 days last week & the gauge showed full (all 7 bars blackened in a 70 gal tank), but put 30 gallons of fuel into the tank when I filled-up. Other times the indicator seems to register properly.

How do I check to see if the problem is the gauge ($$$), sensing unit (haven't found any info what-so-ever on this on the web), a setting, etc? The gauge worked fine for the 1st 3 years. At the end of last year it started acting-up (I ran out of gas even though the gauge showed 1/2 full ... found out later my kids had used the boat).

Disconnect pink wire(wire going to tank sender) from gauge and the the should read emtpy, connect gauge sender wire to a ground and the gauge should read full, if not the sender, wiring or tank ground wires are bad
