  • Speed sensor F250 doesn't work

Where is the sensor located? What's seem to be the common problem with the speedometer?

the small hole in the gear case at the front, it is a small hole, 1/16 inch, clean it out and walla now we have a speedo..

      depends on the guage package.
digital 6y5 or command link 6y8.

start by making sure the little hole(pitot tube) on the leading edge of the gear case is clear.
the sensor is located on the port aft side of the lower cowl.
if the tube is damaged it can be replaced.
DO NOT try to drill it with a power drill.
hand held pin vise type only.

Trying to find the hole, very small, almost invisible.

It was clogged by salt, used a 1,5 mm drill bit and drilling up the pitot tube, only by hand of course. Will try it later.

like i said in my response which apparantly wasnt read,,,, use a 1/16 inch drill bit, by hand only, twist it in till it bottoms out then pull it out.. this is very common.

the F250 command link uses the pitot tube, if its command link it uses the sensor,6y5 will use the hose.
by 06 it should have had the later sensor,it may have the old style.
if its the old style sensor its subject to failure.
if the sensor fails it takes the engine wiring harness and ECU with it.
                a quick check?
look to see if the hex on the sensor is the same size as the hex on the holder.
same for the engine water pressure sensor.

Yes! I read all of the posts above. I found the hole clogged, i guess all is ok now. The engine is from 2010, F250B, thought it would have the new type sensor? Will have to check it out...

2010 should have the new design.
                        just to simple to check.
its amazing how with no external water leakage it can shove water up the harness into the ECU.
