  • Loss of power at 3000 rpm

I have a 2002 Yamaha 250 EFI OX66. I have and issue that the motor when it gets over 3000 rpm (30 mph) it feels and sounds as if the prop disengages and then revs up in rpm. I can back off the throttle to less than 1000 rpm and can then start going again - as long as I keep it around 2700 - 2800 rpm and 28 mph - I can get around to fish in my cove. No alarms for low oil are given. The oil tank on the motor is 3/4 full and the remote tank is 90%. I am open to any suggestions - my next move is to pull it out of the water and check the lower unit.

Thanks for the help - I did what you suggested and found that the prop was spinning on the hub - was unable to find a replacement hub for the prop - but did find a used Vmax prop at the local boat dealer for my motor. So today was able to get the boat back on the water and all is working fine now - thanks again - your suggestion saved me a ton.
