  • 1989 yamaha rpm's

How much rpms should a 1989 yamaha outboard be turning at wot? I have a 1989 proline w/a and its turning about 4400 and 32 mph it seems like i should be getting more like 5500 and ideas? Not sure what pitch the prop is either.

Your boat, motor, and prop should be set up for a WOT RPM of about 5500, sounds like something is not right with your rig, set-up, prop, motor, water-logged hul, tachometer...has it ever shown more RPM's than 4200?

Can you ask previous owner about that 4400RPM's?...assuming your tachometer is correct(which it may not be), then you may have the wrong prop on motor, but surely it's not been wrong since 1989?

When you get to 4400RPM's, did you try to trim up the motor to lift the bow, more speed, more RPM's?....maybe you're just trimmed down too much...try that.
